Keynote Address: Citrix on Azure, Demystified
A lot has changed in the last year – we now have many different options for running VDI in Azure. During this session, we’ll focus on Citrix on Azure as far as what has changed, provide an overview of the options available and some real-world use cases. You’ll see how Citrix Cloud can handle managing the Citrix infrastructure servers as a SaaS service so you don’t have to, as well as how quickly you can start provisioning Windows 10 in Azure. A demo will be shown of how graphics intensive workloads perform in Azure when presented with Citrix Cloud. We’ll also cover some of the technical considerations as well as the operational benefits for utilizing Citrix and Azure as a cloud desktop platform.
10:30 AM: Richard Sedlak, Cloud Practice Architect, Coretek Services
LAB: Migrating servers with Azure Site Recovery
Richard Sedlak will present this hands-on lab where you will learn how to migrate a server using the Azure Site Recovery (ASR) tool. We’ll be using a simulated source environment in Azure to migrate. We’ll also be doing a test cutover and discuss the complete cutover. On-premise environments (VMware, Hyper-V, and hardware) will be discussed.
Participants will need a laptop and access to an Azure subscription where they can create the following resources:
- Virtual network
- Network security group
- Storage accounts
- ASR account
- Virtual machine (including disks, network interfaces, and public IP addresses)

12:00 Noon: Will Anderson, Microsoft MVP and Cloud Solutions Architect, Coretek Services
LAB: Understanding and Creating Your Own DSC Resources
The community has tons of resources that you can use, but what if you can’t find the one you need? Build it!
In this session, Cloud and Datacenter Management MVP Will Anderson will walk you through:
- Understanding how DSC Resources work behind the scenes when you invoke them
- Creating your own Desired State Configuration resources using the DSC Resource Designer.
1:15 PM: Avi Moskovitz, Senior Consultant-Cloud, Coretek Services
LAB: Deploying a .Net MVC Application in Azure
This will be a hands-on learning experience with no previous development expertise required. Learn how Azure can easily and quickly stand up a development environment. We will walk you through the process of creating your own MVC web application. Then we will take you through the process of how to publish it to an App Service in Azure. If additional time allows we will also take you through connecting your new website to an Azure SQL database and discuss the benefits of using Application Insights with your application.
